About The Three Mariners

The Three Mariners is a Grade II listed building that dates back to the 17th Century. The central serving area remains the original part of the building, whilst the dining room was a 19th Century addition which formed part of the long rows of tenements that ran along both sides of Bridge Lane.

The cobbled street outside was at one time the main route into the city over the river, and the narrow street would have been bustling with sailors and merchants that were docked on the quay. Sadly the river became too heavily laden with silt to allow commercial vessels to pass this far up the river during the early 20th Century.

There has been a hostelry on the site since the 15th Century, some of which remains today. Throughout its lifetime it has played a part in Lancaster’s rich history, from housing Jacobite soldiers during troubled times to playing host to the last drink for prisoners as they.
